Ho Chi Minh City marks liberation day and national reunification

The Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and the Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony on April 29 to solemnly celebrate the 38th anniversary of the liberation of the south and national reunification (April 30).  At the ceremony   ( Image: VNA )The commemorative ceremony was attended by former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai; Politburo member and Defence Minister, General Phung Quang Thanh; and Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Le Thanh Hai.Party Central Committee member and Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan, who spoke at the ceremony stated passionately that the struggle for liberation was not only a decisive military victory, but was also a peoples’ victory which has left a inspirational legacy of human dignity that results from the long and hard struggle and great sacrifices of the Vietnamese people all over the country under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.Building on the victory and promoting the achievements obtained Ho Chi Minh City has overcome many difficulties to implement the renewal cause, gaining great socio-economic achievements. Over the past years, Ho Chi Minh City has made great achievements in the implementation of the Party resolutions as well as in socio-economic development, affirming its role as a locomotive and the nation’s socio-economics, culture, education, and science-technology hub.On behalf of the Party and State, Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh presented the title ’Hero of the Armed Force’ to two collectives and five individuals of the city. Also on this occasion, the city also honoured other collectives and individuals with the Labour Order, First Class and the Independence Order, Second and Third class.On the same day, a delegation of the municipal Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee paid tributes to war martyrs at the city’s cemeteries.Source: VNA, translated by Nhan Dan Online
