Actively donating blood to save lives

Patients need blood for treatment and emergency. And if there is no blood for timely transfusion, patients ‘lives face danger. Therefore, blood is considered as a precious "medicine", which can only be obtained from blood donors, can’t be produced and can’t be replaced by any other substance.

Voluntary blood donors deserve to be honored by the whole society for their noble and humane deed - donating blood to save lives

Stemming from the life-saving meaning of voluntary blood donation, many years ago, Dang Thi Dao, born in 1984, living in My Phuoc ward’s quarter 5 in Ben Cat town, volunteered to register to donate blood, contributing to bringing health to others. Talking to us, she said that also from taking care of relatives being treated at hospitals, she realized that blood is very precious and patients’ need for blood is great, so she volunteered to participate in blood donation.

Since 2013, she has participated in blood donation 21 times. She has also mobilized more relatives, friends, colleagues, young workers and local people to participate in this task. “Although each donation is not much, each person who donates a little will help patients in need. Therefore, every time the locality organizes a blood donation round, if having conditions and enough time, I register to participate and mobilize everyone to participate in", said she.

Duong Quang Toan in Thu Dau Mot city’s Phu Cuong ward is a typical example in the blood donation movement of the province and is also an active propagandist, mobilizing many people to join this meaningful movement. In the local blood donation events, if he was not a direct blood donor, he would be an active "propagandist", from posting propaganda information to mobilizing people to donate blood…

As a disabled person, his blood donation is very respectable with 37 times. He shared: “The profound human meaning of voluntary blood donation is to contribute to saving the lives of patients. Blood must always be available for patients in need, so I always maintain my regular blood donation. As soon as I have enough time to donate blood, I will join immediately. I just wish me good health to regularly maintain blood donation".

Blood donation movement growing

Voluntary blood donation is simple when it is said, but not everyone can do it. Only people with the spirit of volunteering for the community are ready for give the priceless gift - the drops of red blood in their body to others. Thanks to the noble deeds of voluntary blood donors, every year, hundreds of millions of lives around the world are saved, thanks to being transfused blood opportunely.

Over the past time, the province’s voluntary blood donation movement has gradually reached vigorous development and become a deep and wide movement, attracting a large number of people from all strata. With the spirit of "A drop of blood to give - A life to stay", provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels coordinated with agencies, departments and mass organizations to actively propagandize and mobilize cadres, civil servants, public employees, laborers, volunteers and locals people to participate in voluntary blood donation.

In addition to propaganda by various forms, provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels have attached special importance to honoring and rewarding outstanding collectives, families and individuals with achievements in voluntary blood donation. As a blood donor and also a person who does the task of propagandizing and mobilizing people to participate in blood donation, Mrs. Dao shared: "The task of honoring blood donors not only shows respect for them, but also contains spiritual values, showing encouragement for those who have actively participated in blood donation, promoting the local voluntary blood donation movement”.

Nguyen Thi Le Trinh, Chairwoman of provincial Red Cross Society said that as the standing body of the Steering Committees for the mobilization of voluntary blood donation at all levels, provincial Red Cross Society has excelled at advising and coordinating with relevant agencies to organize blood donation, reach and exceed the targeted plans through campaigns, namely "Red Spring Festival", "Red drops of blood in summer"… and was awarded the certificates of merit by the Ministry of Health, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society and provincial People's Committee. Provincial Red Cross Society promptly advised provincial People's Committee on promulgating plans to mobilize and receive blood regularly, unexpectedly and urgently; setting up and managing a list of blood donors by group; establishing an emergency blood donation club and a (Rh-) rare blood-type club. For voluntary blood donors, they deserve to be honored by the whole society for their noble and humane deed - donating blood to save lives.

In the period of 2016-2021, the whole province has received 94,953 blood units, reaching and exceeding the target assigned by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation. In the first 6 months of 2022, provincial Red Cross Society coordinated with Ho Chi Minh city-based Cho Ray Hospital’s Blood Transfusion Center to receive 11,402 blood units. In addition, the society also mobilized and offered the support of between VND30,000 and VND100,000 to each blood donor with over VND2.3 billion.
