By June 2013, Long Nguyen Commune of Ben Cat District has 47 farmesteds for swine and 50 others for chicken, dove, crocodiles, and horses.

Along the way on DT749 Street from My Phuoc Town and through the rubber plantations in Ba Phai Commune, we find out more and more farmsteds mainly for swines and chicken.
Ever since 2010, husbandry has been expanding in Long Nguyen Commune, remarkably the major farmsteds for swines and chicken.

“From the beginning of 2013, local authority has received and approved plenty of application for farmsted establishment,” said Deputy Chair of Long Nguyen Commune People’s Committee, Mr. Vo Van Truong.
Of over 100 farmsteds, the commune saw a swine herd of 20,000 to 25,000 individuals and poutries of 500,000 – 750,000. Such amount is not high enough for such specialized region; however, the figure is remarkable for Long Nguyen in short-term view.
“We have land. We have support from specialists, why don’t we just start with husbandry,” said Mr. Nguyen Quoc Viet, a local affected by fluctuation of rubber latex price, chose to switch to husbandry.
Agriculture as the root
Based on special landmark and climate, economic specialists and authority of Long Nguyen Commune oriented local people to agriculture-service-industry structure. Accordingly, supporting policies have been extended to local people in a bid of developing local husbandry.
Local people are always eager for supporting loans. As informed by Mr. Vo Van Truong, local People’s Committee was also offering training courses for farmers to understand the advantages and disadvantages of husbandry before the local People’s Committee consulted for measures from the sectors.
“Knowledge is one of the best way to help them,” Mr. Truong said on the sideline of the June-26 training course offered by Long Nguyen Commune People’s Committee in coordination with Ben Cat District Office of Economics and Sub-department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
