Improvement for urban development needs efforts from many sides

Existent urban areas in the province in particular and the country in general have appeared many problems. However, to develop old and new urban areas harmoniously, it is necessary to have scientific measures on planning and building.

Shortcomings, difficulties

At a Southeastern urban compound conference, Nguyen Thanh Tai, chairman of Thu Dau Mot town People’s Committee, said the province has over years had efforts on urban planning, building and development. Since 2002, the provincial Party Committee’s standing board has issued many resolutions on Thu Dau Mot urban building and development.

The common planning on Thu Dau Mot town and sub-regional planning on wards, communes and land planning till 2020 completed basically. In addition, urban, residential, trade and service areas including Hiep Thanh 1,2,3, Chanh Nghia, Phu Hoa, Becamex City Center… and key works have been completed, bringing a new image for Thu Dau Mot town. The town will be a city by early 2012. However, Tai said that there are shortcomings of asynchronous infrastructure, poor management…

A rep of Vung Tau city shared that management on urban technical infrastructure remains problems. Low compensation price has caused differences among affected people. Meanwhile, a rep of Tay Ninh province said that functions of urban areas remain asynchronous and poor management, triggering unsatisfactoriness on social economic development.

According to Huynh Van Minh, vice director of the provincial Construction Department, traffic network in the HCMC central areas has yet to satisfy standards. Capacity of urban and planning management remains poor.

Synchronous measures needed

According to Tai, Thu Dau Mot town has set out key measures of strengthening the Party leadership, excelling thought education, creating hi-unity between political system and people, raising responsibility on urban civilization lifestyle in a bid to build and develop Thu Dau Mot urban area in the coming time.

In addition, all level agencies should cooperate together to use sources effectively and to hasten projects’ progress and to raise efficiency of managerial apparatus as well as focus on traffic system and water supply and power network…
