In implementation of a joint plan to give support for rural women: Many households escape poverty thanks to being guided how to do business

Update: 22-09-2010 | 00:00:00

Under a joint plan between the Vietnam Women’s Union Central Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on “Helping rural women in economic development, improving their living quality”, provincial Women’s Union teamed up with relevant agencies to effectively realize agricultural and forestry promotion over the past 10 years, contributing to developing production and raising the living quality of the local rural residents…

Particularly, provincial Women’s Union worked with provincial Farmers’ Society, Agricultural Promotion Center, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development…to open nearly 2,300 seminars on sci-tech ways in cultivation and animal husbandry for around 138,000 rural women. It also cooperated with provincial Union of Cooperatives to organize 18 classes on collective economy for 1,300 women…. As a result, the local rural women were equipped with more knowledge in agricultural production and prevention of cattle and poultry diseases.

Thanks to having new jobs, rural women have enjoyed opportunities to improve their lives

During the production process, many rural women showed their creativeness, made good ways and bravely put new breeding animals and nurslings in production for better results. Province-based fertilizer companies regularly opened seminars introducing fertilizer products to rural women while providing them with fertilizer products under deferred payment. These deeds contributed to helping the local poor women rise up out of poverty.

Provincial Women’s Union also mobilized well-off women to offer help to poor ones in economic development and helped poor women get loans from provincial Bank for Social Policy, Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development to develop homebased business and raise their living quality. Under the “Day for Poor Women” program, the union’s loan-giving groups also upheld their effectiveness…As of late 2009, total outstanding loans provided to the local rural women reached more than VND273bln. Many rural women effectively used the loan in economic development.

The province gained encouraging results after 10 years of implementing the above cooperation program between provincial Women’s Union and relevant agencies. Tran Thi Lien, vice-chairwoman of provincial Women’s Union said that through the cooperation program, rural women in the province were equipped with knowledge regarding cultivation and animal husbandry for better results. Consequently, their lives saw improvement in all aspects. They also actively got involved in activities and movements launched by the local Women’s Union. There also appeared many outstanding women in production and business…

Under the Party’s renewal policy, the province’s agriculture and rural development sector gained great achievements over the past time. The local women, especially rural ones made contributions to the sector. Possibly speaking, they greatly contributed to promoting the local production development process, improving the living quality of the local people and successfully realizing the local targets on socio-economic development.
