Nurturing and promoting innovations applied to the actual production and business processes is one of the important factors that help promote the capacity of individuals and groups, thereby, realizing creations and ideas to bring about practical results for businesses. Over the years, at Phuoc Hoa Rubber Joint Stock Company (PHR), the movement to promote initiatives in production has been fostered in the production and business operations of the unit.

Economic efficiency versus environmental protection

In the last months of 2022, also the sprint period for units and enterprises to focus on completing the business and production tasks of 2022, all officers and employees of PHR, in the same atmosphere, also diligently put their initiatives into immediate application in the daily labor and production process in order to successfully complete the set tasks.

Every year, in addition to the labor emulation movement and good production, the movement to promote initiatives among officials and employees is interested by the company. In 2021, although the situation of the COVID-19 epidemic caused tremendous problems to production and business activities, PHR still recognized and rewarded 10 initiatives and solutions for production at the company to maintain and promote the movement. A typical initiative of PHR in 2021 that should be mentioned is the "Reuse of wastewater after treatment in the Bo La - Centrifugal wastewater treatment system to use for the Bo La - Ly Tam processing plant", which contributes to the reuse of wastewater after treatment in a wastewater treatment system that meets Vietnamese standards of QCVN 01-MT/2015 required by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The above-mentioned initiative not only brings about economic efficiency to PHR by saving about 21,289 cubic meters worth about VND 110 million, but also contributes to environmental protection by limiting groundwater exploitation, contributing to the development of corporate sustainability. Or like the improvement of the author team of Nha Nai Rubber Plantation with the design of 2-time tapping for a BO-1 or BO-2 scraping board on a primary tapping plantation. Designed for 2-time application for 5 tapping, the improvement has brought economic efficiency to reduce design costs by VND 2.9 million per 50 tapping trees and saved an average time of 2 hours for each tapping worker.

The simple improvement of the Quality Control Department to upgrade the Mooney Negretti machine which did not meet the standards into a Mooney meter that conformed to TCVN 6090-1:2015 replaced some components and equipment to technically help project participants upgrade the old Mooney Negretti meter to meet the technical requirements according to TCVN 6090- 1:2015, and at the same time, improve the utility for users, meeting the needs of inspection of the Quality Management Department, and contributing to saving the cost of investing in new Mooney meters for economic benefits of more than VND 346 million.

The company's youth union members have initiatives, improvements, and solutions to improve quality and efficiency in participating in online learning, meetings, and training for those who use old operating systems and cannot access new major online platform, the author group connects online with the superior delegation using the online meeting room system at the company's hall A, then shares it with the Youth Union institutions using smaller software such as Zavi, Google meet, Zoom cloud meeting etc. to join in. The initiative has contributed to cutting costs for equipment installation, sealing, printing of documents, food and travel expenses for the youth union members to attending and conferencing. Thereby, the initiative has also become a useful tool to help educate and raise awareness for youth union members to prevent and combat social evils, to learn the internal rules and regulations of the unit, and to prevent the occurrence of negative effects in production labor as well as minimizing cases of violations of labor regulations in the company.

In 2022 and on returning to production activities after the Covid-19 pandemic, PHR continues to promote emulation and good production throughout the company. In particular, PHR continues to promote the spirit of creative labor by encouraging initiatives, improvements and solutions to effectively serve production and business activities to fulfill the 2022 plan.

One of the innovations and improvements that are highly appreciated in 2022 is the initiative of the PE packaging production team to improve the heat press-sealing machine that covers the PE carpet, invested by the company in 2016. In the first time used strictly according to the principles and instructions of the manufacturer, the machine encountered some limitations. Workers have to manipulate 2-3 times for a weld, which takes time and affects work productivity. The temperature on the welding line of the machine was not stable, leading to the weld when it is melted; when peeled, the weld was bad, and the quality was poor. The probability of defective welds was high, and each weld must be carefully checked, causing time loss leading to reduced production output and unsatisfactory customer feedbacks.

For the mentioned problems, Chu Van Trung - the leader of the PE packaging production team and his members, came up with an initiative to improve and install a more stable thermostat on the welding seam with the design of adding more pressing time to keep the weld stable. As a result, the improvement has helped workers to operate only once for a weld. The temperature on the welding line of the machine is always maintained stably, so the weld is firm, and the quality is good at the susatained adhesion while the weld form is fine. In particular, the probability of error is almost zero on just random checks of the quality of the weld, thereby improving working productivity.

Prominent among the initiatives of 2022 is from the author group of Le Thanh Phuong - Deputy Head of Quality Management Department of PHR and members who participated in the improvement of "Upgrading the non-standard HANDO sample rolling machine into a standard rolling mill conforming to TCVN11021:2015”. The authors, based on the survey on the design of the existing HANDO roll forming machine, studied and decided to replace a number of parts, components and technical equipment to make the machine meet the technical requirements according to TCVN 11021:2015 for high utility of users, meeting the requirements of controlling technical parameters of testing equipment, helping to save investment costs in new rolling mills.

It is known that the investment cost of the sample rolling machine and the HANDO model after being improved according to the market survey in 2022 was about VND 900 million. However, the machine after the upgrade is still a used machine, so the research team estimates about 50% of the investment value of the new machine, equivalent to VND 450 million for an improvement cost of no more than VND 44 million, saving the company VND 406 million. The introduction and reuse of the improved HANDO sample rolling machine at the unit brought great benefits in terms of investment costs in new equipment, improving the spirit of saving and anti-waste in the enterprise.
