Update: 29-12-2012 | 00:00:00

Worries of toxic foodstuff

Early 2012, the local animal husbandry faced difficulties of bird flu epidemic. Till the mid-year, usage of banned chemicals in animal husbandry made customers anxious in a long time, declining prices of pork and production capacity. In addition, increase of interest rates and input material prices and decline of price of products from cattle and poultry created many difficulties for the sector.

Recently, a finding of injecting tranquillize for pigs before slaughter increased customers’ worry. Additionally, another finding of using rotten meats at a restaurant in Di An town was a proof of smuggling toxic foodstuff.

Asked about ways of inspection on product quality, many small traders at Thu Dau Mot market said that they purchase goods at reliable workshops.

Assurance of foodstuff quality

Despite economic difficulties, customers consider meats as a top priority for their shopping. In Binh Duong alone, supply of meat sources is ensured and preparation for foodstuff supply in the coming Tet holiday has been implemented early.

Ta Trong Khang, vice head of the provincial Veterinary Bureau, said “To actively offer foodstuff sources for the year end, the bureau has spurred inspections quarantine at livestock farms”.

At present, price of pork has increased and it is forecasted that pork price will jump highly in the coming Tet holiday. “With a population of about 1.4mil people, local quantity of poultry and cattle is enough to offer customers inside and outside of the province”, Khang added.
