Instituting standardized school library

A library, a treasure storing knowledge, is a place where teachers and pupils can cultivate their learning through updated information. To pupils, reading books is a habit helping them improving their vision, accumulating experiences. Therefore, educational sector has instituted standardized school library attending to teaching and learning. 
Pupils of Binh Chuan primary school were reading books at libraryThe Department of Education and Training (E&T) defined that library at school has an important role supporting teaching and learning, thus directed E&T offices to establish school library towards standardization. Annually, the Department sponsors their E&T offices to purchase books, school supplies, which are later allocated to schools. According to Education Training Ministry’s regulations, a library must be at least 50m2, including reading room for teachers, pupils, and storeroom of books. To schools previously constructed, 1 – 2 rooms have to be saved for library. Newly constructed schools have to meet this requirement for the design. Thanks to funding of Circular 30 and socialization, schools equipped tables, chairs, and bookshelves. Reference books for teachers, all kinds of books for learning, entertaining of pupils, magazines are regularly supplemented. Binh Chuan primary school’s library (Thuan An town) is the only standardized library decorated beautifully and smartly. Reading room for pupils has 50 seats, reading room for teachers has a seating capacity of 30. Bookshelves are categorized according to kinds of books, like: textbooks, reference books, children’s books, newspapers, magazines etc. Therefore, there are always many pupils coming to the library during break time. Annually, 200 – 300 new books are added to the library. Phu Cuong secondary school’s library (TDM City) is one of ten advanced libraries of secondary school bloc. Principal Tu Quoc Thanh said, the library has assisted well in teaching activity. Teachers usually come to library to cultivate their professional and knowledge, pupils find useful information for learning and entertaining.Librarians now not only keep books, but also have professional to operate the library to serving learning and teaching. According to Manager of Library – Equipment Office of E&T Department Mr. Dang Van Be, every year, the Department organizes training courses for librarians. At the present, besides staff graduating from library specialty, remaining librarians were trained carefully. Many teachers operate their libraries carefully and methodically, when utilizing informatics technology, projectors to attract pupils. Teacher Truong Thu Hong of Binh Chuan secondary school said, their library introduces monthly according to various topics, organizes annually story-telling contest on big anniversaries like Vietnamese Teacher’s Day, Vietnamese Communist Party foundation day etc. Thus, their school usually gets prizes at annually story-telling contests of locality as well as province.At the present, the province has 178 standardized libraries, 33 advanced libraries and 1 excellent library. Particularly, Phu Giao district has 100% libraries achieving standards, including 19/22 advanced libraries. Director of Phu Giao district E&T Office Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung explained, funds are not invested extensively in all local school libraries, but are sent to each suitable library in each year.
