Int’l Chonburi Cup 2013: Great power of the host team

Update: 24-01-2013 | 00:00:00

It is not difficult for Becamex Binh Duong (B.BD) to compete in the Group A of the International Football Tournament-Chonburi Cup 2013, but whether B.BD is able to defeat Thailand’s two host teams Chonburi FC and Suphanburi FC to win a ticket for the final round of the tournament?

Thailand’s Chonburi FC at BTV Cup 2012

Over the past three years, Chonburi FC was seen as Thailand’s second best football team only after Muangthong United. The team is widely known by their nickname The Sharks which can be seen in the club logo.

The Sharks began attending the Thai Primier League in 2006 and finished 8th place in the first season. It made impression on the local fans when excellently winning the championship title at the Thai Primier League 2007 season.

But, Chonburi FC only ranked second in the Thai Primier League 2008 season as it was too busy with the first AFC Champions League in 2008. In the national championship seasons of 2008 and 2009, Chonburi FC also only ranked second and third.

The Sharks continued ranking second in the national championship seasons of  2011 and 2012. Also during the period, Chonburi won two important titles, including the Emperor’s Cup title and the 3rd position at the AFC Cup 2012.

With the above-mentioned achievements, Chonburi FC will be a strong rival for B.BD in the Group A of the International Football Tournament-Chonburi Cup 2013. It is known that B.BD defeated Chonburi with great distance in score in the recent five matches, but Chonburi is always very strong when playing at Thailand’s sports ground.
