Intel today (September 28) announces its Cloud computing vision in Vietnam, in which reconfirms that Cloud Computing is Intel’s focus in Data Center vision. This is one of Intel’s important events in accelerating development of an emerging technology trend in the country.
A Gartner survey last year – mostly with large enterprises – showed that more than half of respondents believed that they will be using external cloud services in place of internal services within two years – and this will increase to about two-thirds by 2012. Meanwhile, IDC predicts that worldwide cloud services market size will reach about $43 billion by 2012. IDC also estimates that over the next 3 years cloud service adoption will grow at 27% CAGR (Compounded Annual Growth Rate), which is almost five times that for the traditional on-premise IT expenditure model.
After lots of research, covering a wide range of areas, from customer demands to actual adoption, Intel’s cloud computing vision next year focuses on 3 solutions that help addressing challenges and realizing cloud computing full potential and value: Federated, Automated, and Client aware.
A typical product that helps realizing Intel’s cloud computing vision is Intel® Cloud Builder initiative. In this initiative, Intel works with leading cloud computing software companies, including Canonical, Titrix, Enomaly, Microsoft, Prallels, Red Hat, Univa, VMware, and Xen, etc. to provide reference architectures, experiences and case studies regarding cloud computing. These reference architectures provide guidelines in cloud computing design and development process with the use of Intel® Xeon®-based servers with each of the mentioned leading cloud computing software. Intel® Cloud Builder provides an easy start to building a cloud computing environment with basic hardware platforms and existing cloud computing software solutions.
Mr Kirk Skaugen, Vice President, Intel Corporation, General Manager, Data Center Group shared in Hanoi: “Intel technology orientation and Cloud computing reference architectures help Vietnam enterprises and organizations to develop Cloud computing effectively and successfully. We are willing to share our expertise, experience, products and services with the local enterprises, especially the practical Cloud computing deployment experiences of Intel IT Group. This again confirms our long term commitment to support Vietnam IT industry further development”.
Intel also announces Intel® Xeon® 5600 series processors for Cloud computing environments in Vietnam. The new Intel Xeon 5600 series processors feature 6 cores on an individual processor to achieve 60% better performance compared to Intel Xeon 5500 series on 45nm processing technology. Furthermore, data centers can replace 15 single core servers with only one new server, with a payback period of no more than 5 months.
