Issues of FDI attraction, investment appeal and promotion in the coming time were shared by head of foreign investment bureau Do Nhat Hoang (photo) at an experience exchange conference on investment promotion held at Binh Duong New City.

Would you tell about FDI attraction in 2010?

In 2010, despite the global economic recession, FDI capital newly registered in Vietnam reached over US$13bil, FDI capital disbursement in 2010 got over $11bil, a 13% rise from the previous year. FDI capital source mainly focused on fields of industrial production, processing. Overall, FDI attraction in 2010 showed fascination on investment-business climate in Vietnam. At the Vietnam Consultative Group Meeting, reps of sponsors and investors from the US, EU, Japan, Korea… affirmed that Vietnam would soon overcome difficulties and remain an attractive destination for foreign investors in the coming time.

What do you think of situation and solution of FDI attraction in the coming time?

According to many economists, the world economic recovery in 2011 remains instable and difficult. Large countries such as Japan, Korea, the EU, US will be likely to get a slow growth. This will impact on Vietnam’s FDI attraction in 2011. Therefore, to meet capital demand for economic development, investment promotion should be stepped up inside and outside the country.

Which area will be given priority for FDI appeal in 2011?

In 2011, the government keeps luring FDI capital sources for areas of energy, high technology, electric component production, telecom, infrastructure facility, especially supportive industry. In Nov. 2010, the PM signed a decision on the trial (public-private partnership) PPP investment form for traffic and infrastructure projects. The new form has lured attention from businesses, foreign investors and opened a new channel of FDI attraction.

To lure FDI capital effectively, what issues should we focus on?

In FDI attraction, investment promotion is very important. To reach a maximum efficiency for this work, the bureau hopes that ministries, agencies and localities are under closer cooperation with reps of investment promotion in localities to map out concrete plans on investment promotion. At Vietnam rep agencies in foreign countries, reps of foreign investment promotion must conduct many various works, so localities should soon map out investment promotion plans, improving success and efficiency in FDI attraction.
