iPhone 4G model appears in Vietnam

Update: 17-05-2010 | 00:00:00

An online forum in Vietnam called Taoviet has posted pictures of an iPhone that is believed to be Apple’s latest unreleased iPhone 4G model.

This product is similar to the prototype iPhone 4G disclosed by Gizmodo website in April 2010. Administrators of Taoviet have refused to disclose the source of this product.

IT experts noted that the iPhone 4G in Vietnam is a test product, which differs little from the Gizmodo one. It lacks the two screws at the bottom and the storage note on the back reads 16 GB instead of XX GB.

The smartphone is authentic, because it bears the Apple symbol on the microprocessor.

iFixit, a world famous website for analyzing mobile equipment, confirmed that the iPhone 4G in Vietnam has an A4 chipset like Apple iPad and 256 MB RAM Samsung storage.

It is unclear how this equipment arrived in Vietnam. According to Voz forum, the owner is Nguyen Thanh Phuong, the director of Nam Phuong Mobile Company. However, Phuong told VNExpress that a customer brought in this phone to his shop to be unlocked.

Previously, a Taoviet member was rumored to have paid $4000 to buy this phone on the US black market and bring back to Vietnam.

Some claimed that this is a fake Chinese product, because Apple keeps new products and prototype smartphones a complete secret and therefore it could not have come to a faraway country like Vietnam.

The first pictures of the equipment appeared on Vietnamese websites on May 12.
