IT industry development – potential in parallel with challenge

As a fast developing industrial province, Binh Duong’s IT industry has yet to keep pace with other localities. Binh Duong is lacking a strategic program to develop IT industry.

 

Manpower attraction is a main factor for IT development.

Potential

The entire province has more than 300 businesses relating to IT industry. They include 3 computer makers, 83 electronics businesses, 51 telecom businesses. Besides, other 20 ones reap an average production value of VND135bil per year. In 2009, the local industrial production value reached about VND219,800bil, of which IT industry accounted for VND17,800bil.

Notably, IT industry’s production value surged about 27% in the 2006-2009 period. This is a basic foundation for IT industry development in line with Government’s resolution on turning Vietnam into a strong IT country.

Besides, the locality has offered many incentive policies to develop this industry. Binh Duong considers IT industry as a breakthrough to reach high profit in hi-tech industry.

Hard-ware industry

IT industry includes hard-ware, software, digital and telecom industries. However, software and digital industries in the locality remain underdeveloped. The local IT industry is mainly hardware industry.

The province targets to spur software export in the period of 2011- 2015 and invest in producing hardware-electronics products.

In the period of 2016-2020, the locality will aim at developing IT products with Vietnamese trademarks. However, the province has yet to reach results as expected.
