Italian city donates $26,200 to Vietnam dioxin victims

The mission office of Bolzano, the capital city of Italy’s northern province of South Tyrol, Tuesday donated 20,000 euro (US$26,200) to Agent Orange/Dioxin victims in the northern province of Hai Duong, Vietnam. Representatives of Bolzano, Italy hand over 20,000 euro to VAVAThe sum is meant to provide housing and healthcare assistance to families heavily affected by the chemical.According to Hai Duong authorities, the sum will be spent to build 15-20 houses, provide healthcare to 20 children, grant scholarships to four students, assist 10 families with production tools, and support visually impaired people in the locality.Nguyen The Luc, deputy chairman of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA), expressed his gratitude to the Bolzano office for the aid and pledged that the entire sum will be spent on the victims.Last year, Bolzano raised VND504 million ($24,200) to grant assistance to dioxin victims in Hai Duong.Bolzano is one of only five mainly Italian speaking municipalities in South Tyrol. The city ranked number two on the list of 107 Italian cities in the best quality-of-life survey in 2011, after Bologna. TuoiTreNews
