Photo by T. Ly. In 1999, Mr. Doan Quoc Tuan, the provincial Karatedo coach brought athe sport to Binh Duong Province with foundation of Thu Dau Mot center. In the first step, he started up with only 20 fighters in the face of lacking facilities and training conditions.“I’ve been through various kinds of martial arts but Karatedo is the most suitable to me. I’ve tried my best to train up and introduce this kind of sport to younger generations,” said Tuan as Binh Duong Provincial Karatedo Coach.To put Karatedo into stable operation, he coordinated with local sport authority to build up facilities and movements.It is especially that in recent years, the sport has drawn great attention of the public and the local youths. According to Tuan, the movement of Karatedo practice in Binh Duong Province has taken tempo with neighbor provinces to confirm its position in Karatedo nationwide.Various localities have eyed development of Karatedo in various clubs effectively maintained. In such movements, talent fighters have been discovered and trained to attend major tournament of the nation and region.Statistically, the province has over 30 Karatedo Clubs with about 2,500 trainees on frequent practice. Currently, 20 athletes have been in intensive training to join national team of Karatedo, including Nguyen Minh Phung, Ho Quang Vu, Nguyen Thien Phuc, and Nguyen Thanh Duy.In 2013, at South East Asian Championship in Philippines, Binh Duong fighters won 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. At the 19th National Karatedo Tournament for Young Champions in Can Tho, Binh Duong fighters won 5 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze medals; at tournament in Dak Lak 4 gold, 1 silver, and 9 bronze medals. In recent championship in South East Asian in 2014, the fighters won 2 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals.Holding the great amateur enthusiasm and achievements in recent years, Karatedo in Binh Duong Province has been developed in terms of contributions to national sports.Reported by To Tam – Translated by Vi Bao
