Khmer woman rises up out of poverty for a stable life

Update: 29-03-2011 | 00:00:00

Living in a poor family, Lam Thi Say, a Khmer woman at Tan Minh hamlet, Minh Thanh commune, Dau Tieng district has learnt to rise up out of poverty and get rich legitimately. Thanks to their diligence, Say and her husband have so far made a well-off life from bare hands.

Say said that she and her husband met and lived together in 1990s with bare hands. At that time, the families of two sides were also very poor, so Say and her husband did not receive help from them. They experienced a lot of hardship to earn their living in the remote land of Minh Thanh.

Thanks to the attention and help of the local government, Say and her husband decided to grow rubber trees and a kind of herd with scientific name “Derris Elliptica Benth”. Fortunately, her family secured VND40mln a year from this kind of herb. The joy of her family seemed to be bigger when their rubber garden began giving the first latex bowls.

According to Say, her family secures a monthly income of around VND4mln from rubber latex, regardless other incomes from animal husbandry and many other plants. This is seen as a considerable income of a farmer household in the remote land like Minh Thanh.

Say said that thanks to the attention and help of the local government, her family has secured a well-off life. With the State and Party’s support policies for ethnic minority people, Say believes that many other ethnic minority households will also strive to rise up out of poverty and secure a stable life.
