Learning well to repay a debt of gratitude

Update: 03-10-2013 | 00:00:00
Nguyen Thi My Phuong, who is 9th-grade pupil of Trinh Hoai Duc secondary school (Thuan An town), has a doubled happiness, because she received two scholarships and a new bicycle from provincial Children Sponsoring Fund and Study Promotion Association for this new school year. Her face sparkles with joy. She frequently smiles as talking with others. But there is an unhappy story behind her smile. Her mother died shortly after Phuong’s birth. She had to live with her grandmother; her father only visited her occasionally because of distant business. In 2012, her father also passed away. Phuong’s grandmother has to take care of Phuong and two other grandchildren. Her retirement pension is not enough to provide for a four-member family. However, the grandmother determines to support Phuong’s learning. Phuong lives optimistically and tries her best to learn well, because she believes in a future better life. She has been an excellent pupil in eight consecutive years. Having the trust of her teacher and friends, she is also a class monitor. “As a monitor, I always try to be sociable and remind my friends to join activities of class and school. Thus I have to be an example first. My teachers and friends have helped me a lot because of my difficult circumstance. I am grateful to all teachers, friends, and benefactors for their support strengthening my energy and will so that I can continue to go to school”.Reported by A.Sang – Translated by Ngoc Huynh
