Joining music enthusiasts at the "Multicolored Sound - Listening to Tranh (16-chord zither) Telling Stories" concert held at Binh Duong Junior College of Fine Arts and Culture, we experienced a unique musical journey where traditional cultural values blended seamlessly with modern tones.

Directed by general director Xa Doan Hong Loi, teacher of the school, the program not only brought unique performances, but also heartfelt stories of love for music, cultural interference and passion for traditional instruments—particularly “đàn tranh” (Vietnam’s 16-chord zither).

The event was opened with a striking combination of Northern and Southern folk tunes, featuring a medley of “Đi cấy” (Rice Planting) and “Lý kéo chài” (Fishing Song). The sounds of 16-chord zither, monochord and bamboo flute harmonized to create a vivid, rich musical space full of national identities.

The audience was then immersed by the soulful rendition of “Vọng Kim Lang” performed by artists Thanh Hung and Thien An. The delicate sounds of the 16-chord zither and pipa immersed listeners in an emotional journey, evoking cherished memories.

The program extended beyond traditional music to include modern hits and international songs, reimagined with the unique pairing of the dan tranh and piano, offering a refreshing musical experience.

The program not only stopped at traditional music, but also extended to modern hits. International songs were also performed in a new way through the blend of 16-chord zither and piano, bringing the audience an exciting musical experience.

Singer Thu Hien, an alumna of Binh Duong Junior College of Fine Arts and Culture’s Culture and Arts Faculty shared that singing with traditional instruments made her feel “as if returning to her roots, where cultural values are always present”. Le Quang Loi, Principal of Binh Duong Junior College of Fine Arts and Culture emphasized that “Multicolored Sound - Listening to Tranh Telling Stories” was not only a performance, but also a journey of discovering and connecting traditional cultural values with modern music. The event’s creators brought moments of profound emotion to the audience, creating a vibrant musical picture.

Thanks to the efforts by these artists, it is hoped that love and passion for traditional music will further spread, helping preserve and promote the nation’s cultural values.
