Update: 10-05-2012 | 00:00:00

The material and spiritual lives of blind people across the province have been improved as a result of the job creation and hunger eradication-poverty reduction program implemented by provincial Association for the Blind over the past five years.

Tran Van Em, chairman of provincial Association for the Blind said that over the past five year, the program received more support from the local authorities at all levels, mass organizations and donors, contributing to improving the material and spiritual lives of the local blind people.

One of the province’s successes over the past time was vocational training and employment creation.  So far, provincial Association for the Blind has provided training on broom making and massage skills for 120 blind people.

Broom making brings many blind people stable income

The association has also set up 5 massage facilities, 1 bamboo toothpick-making facility, Phu Loi broom-making facility…, generating jobs for members with the average income of around VND2mln per capita per month.

Thanks to being provided vocational training and employment, many blind people have risen up out of poverty and secured a stable life. The coupe of Nguyen Van Hai and Nguyen Thi Thu Hong is a typical example for this.

According to Mr.Em, there are no more blind people in need of housing. Over the past five years, provincial Association for the Blind mobilized organizations and individuals to build 37 unity households and upgraded 6 others with a total expense of nearly VND600mln.

The association has also attached special importance to disbursing loans for members to develop home based business. Till now, the association has provided members with VND1.6bln in loan; set up 62 projects for more than 448 members to get nearly VND3.3bln in loan…

Thanks to the above-mentioned efforts, provincial Association for the Blind now has only 10% of poor households.
