Localities urged to provide support for farmers with infected rubber gardens

Representatives of 10 provinces and cities in the Central Highland and east-southern regions gathered in Binh Duong province on Sept.13 for a workshop on “ Prevention of leaf fall disease in rubber trees caused by the fungus Corynespora”, which was held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MoARD).

 

According to a report of MoARD, there have been 15,000 ha of rubber in the 10 above provinces and cities hit by the leaf fall disease. As of Sept.9, Binh Duong had a total of 5,35.7 ha of infected rubber in Ben Cat, Phu Giao, Dau Tieng and Tan Uyen districts.

 

At the workshop, participants said that the leaf fall disease caused by the fungus Corynespora was very dangerous and likely to spread quickly, causing heavy losses to rubber growers. They also presented some measures to prevent and control over the disease such as collecting and taking all precautionary measures against the disease, improving the RRIV 4 rubber gardens…

 

Addressing the workshop, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Bui Ba Tong said that State-run agencies needed to consider and provide support for farmers with infected rubber gardens; take precautionary measures against the disease; carry out wide, deep and synchronous research works to more effectively prevent the disease…
