The glorious 97-year journey
Reviewing the glorious 97-year journey of Vietnam's revolutionary journalism, Le Huu Phuoc, Chairman of provincial Journalists Association emphasized that 97 years of construction and growth, journalists have always been imbued with Uncle Ho’s teachings, not being afraid of hardships, being ready to "go into birth and death" in the "rain of bombs and bullets" of war or face dangers to penetrate reality. Journalists were present in "hot spots" from rugged mountains or remote islands, where natural disasters, storms, floods or quarantine areas are full of risks of disease transmission... to complete there noble mission.

According to Mr. Phuoc, over the years, Binh Duong-based press agencies well performed their function of propagandizing the Party's guidelines-policies and the State's laws; actively fought against corruption, wastefulness and negativity; criticized the manifestations of degradation in morality and lifestyle in society, served as a forum for the masses to contribute opinions as well as exercising their right to supervise the management of local authorities at all levels. They contributed to calling for investment, international economic integration, solving socio-cultural issues, protecting security – national defense of the province and making significant contributions to the revolutionary cause of the nation.
The Executive Board of provincial Journalists Association clearly defined key goals for the 2020-2025 tenure, set up an effective action plan, striving to well realize the role and responsibility of the association, thereby contributing to promoting the local journalism in all aspects. In addition to gathering and developing members, improving operational contents and forms, inspecting and supervising the implementation of the charter, the association has always actively cooperated with governing bodies and leaders of press agencies on the work of fostering journalistic skills, professional ethics, rules for using social networks… among members and journalists, greatly contributing to successfully implementing the local political tasks; encouraged members to actively participate in press awards at provincial, regional and central levels.
More and more high-quality press works
Every year, the Vietnam Journalists Association, central sectors and Binh Duong province organize press awards. They include the National Press Award of the Vietnam Journalists Association, the Party Building Press Award (Golden Hammer and Sickle Award) of the Central Organization Committee and the Nguyen Van Tiet Press Award of Binh Duong province. Do Van Thong, Vice-Chairman of provincial Journalists Association said that with the attention of provincial leaders, the Nguyen Van Tiet Press Award is the province's annual press award. Up to now, the number of journalists participating in the award has been increasing.
The 7th Nguyen Van Tiet Prize Award 2022 absorbed nearly 50 authors and groups of authors in and out of the province. Through the preliminary examination, more than 90 works were selected for the final round. Along with a contingent of reporters from press agencies in the province, the award also lured the participation of reporters from press agencies residing in the province. Especially, there were 3 works in the press photo category.
Most entries for the competition focused on the topic of Covid-19 prevention and control. They showed the efforts by journalists who were not afraid of difficulties and dangers to penetrate reality and reflect the local Covid-19 prevention and control. Besides, there were also many works opportunely reflecting other hot and practical issues in the fields of politics, economy, culture, society, security, national defense, foreign affairs…
“In order to improve the quality of the 8th Nguyen Van Tiet Press Award in 2022 and the following years, the Organization Board of the award and the Executive Board of provincial Journalists Association wanted provincial leaders to consider increasing the amount of money for the Nguyen Van Tiet Press Award in 2022 and the following years, contributing to encouraging the participation of journalists in and out of the province. In addition, journalists need to learn and improve their professional skills, know how to accumulate experience in their work, quickly detect new factors, be creative in expression and reflect issues to the last. Provincial Journalists Association will continue coordinating with the Professional Training Center under the Central Committee of the Vietnam Journalists Association and press agencies in the province to organize training courses on skills for journalists in the selection of topics and methods of creating journalistic works for competition”, said Mr. Phuoc.
