Many problems for storm and flooding control in 2010

Update: 14-06-2010 | 00:00:00

According to the provincial steering board of Storm and Flooding Control, natural calamities were proven abnormal in the past year, causing impacts on local residents’ life. To say, in Nov. 2009 flood tide broke some dikes, causing flood in many areas of Thu Dau Mot and damaging local people's assets.

However, under the timely instruction of the local Party Committee, the board in cooperation with its affiliates launched urgent measures to deal with flooding caused by flood tide.

The abnormal changes of weather were trending upward. In the past year, the province was hit by 7 whirlwinds, injuring 2 people, damaging 74 houses and 22.55ha of rubber plantation. Besides, heavy rains and big flood tides in the last year caused flooding across inner town and Thuan An district with the estimated loss of over VND2.2bil.

From early 2010 to May, 2010, abnormal rains plus whirlwind happened in Tan Uyen, Phu Giao, Ben Cat, Dau Tieng districts and Thu Dau Mot town, damaging 60 houses, 3,747ha of rubber with the total loss of VND917mil.

To actively prevent the natural calamities, rescue and flooding and storm control should be more positive and urgent with measures of reinforcing water drainage, dike systems, upgrading communication information network as well as raise the public’s awareness on flooding and storm control.
