Master plan on agricultural development approved

A Master Plan for Agricultural Development until 2020 and a vision towards 2030 was recently approved by PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng with several specific targets.

 

The plan targets to develop agriculture, forestry and fishery sector towards improving productivity, quality, competitiveness and sustainability.

 

By 2020, agriculture will account for 64.7%; forestry 2% and fishery 33.3%.

 

Between 2011 and 2020, the sector’s GDP growth rate is expected to hit 3.4-4% per year. Forest coverage would reach 44-45% by 2020. Agro-forestry and fishery export turnover is projected to reach US $40 billion.

 

By 2030, the export figure would surge to over US $60 billion.

 

To fulfill the targets, Viet Nam would expand agricultural land to around 1.1 million hectares of which 37,000 hectares will be allocated to rice cultivation. 

 

By 2020, the area of forestry land would be around 16.2-16.5 million. Wood processing zones will be re-arranged. Meanwhile, aquaculture cultivation regions will be set up./.
