On the morning of April 12, at Phu Cuong Park in Thu Dau Mot city, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) in collaboration with the Department of Health, and the People's Committee of Thu Dau Mot city organized a rally to prevent and control rabies in the province.
According to statistics, in 2023, the whole country had 240 outbreaks of rabies in animals in 31 provinces and cities, with 817 infected animals dying and being destroyed. Currently, rabies in the whole country is complex and appearing in many provinces and cities. In Binh Duong, in recent years, there have been no cases of human deaths from rabies and no outbreaks of rabies in dogs and cats. The whole province, including 3 localities: Thu Dau Mot City, Tan Uyen City, and Bau Bang District, have been recognized by the Veterinary Department as safe areas for rabies.
Making statement at the ceremony, Mr. Pham Van Bong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, requested the Department of Education and Training to enhance school communication about the danger of rabies, especially for primary school students. The district People's Committee directs the local authorities at the commune level to develop specific annual plans to record and vaccinate pet dogs in the locality; regularly inspect and handle cases of administrative violations in pet dog management. He also requested the veterinary agency to coordinate with the commune People's Committee to promote the vaccination of rabies for dogs and cats; strive for a vaccination rate of over 80% of the total surveyed population.
