After 8 years of implementing the Resolution No.9 of the Politburo and the Directive No.14 of the provincial People’s Committee’s Standing Committee on “Improving Party’s leadership for the work of the Veterans’ Societies in the new revolutionary period”, Tan Uyen district’s Veterans’ Society has tried to overcome all obstacles and especially promoted the campaign “Members helping each other in economic development, greatly contributing to the local development.
In addition to helping each other in economic development, members of Tan Uyen district’s Veterans’ Society have actively mobilized the local people to make rural roads
Particularly, more than 1,000 members of the local Veterans’ Society got a total loan of VND9.4bln to develop homebased business. Members of the local Veterans’ Society also actively helped each other in economic development via many forms, including providing over VND962 in non-interest rate loan for 145 members with terms from one to three years; supporting 45,035 nurslings and 139 breeding animals…The society also set up a support fund that provided more than VND913mln for 263 members.
The lives of the local Veterans’ Society’s members have so far been improved with the ratio of poor households seeing consideration reduction. As of August 2010, the society had 112 households escaping from poverty and now has 18 poor households under the new poverty line. Currently, there are 798 well-off households or 43% of total and 1,059 households with the average living standard or 57% of total. There are more than 81 households with the annual income between VND100mln and VND150mln. Members of the society have also developed a lot of effective business models, contributing to creating jobs for the local laborers.
Since 2002, the local Veterans’ Society has mobilized organizations and individuals to build and hand over 134 gratitude, compassion and unity households to needy members; visited and offered help to sick members…with a total expense of VND82mln; suggested the local functional agencies to consider and solve policies for 740 documents; collected and brought 79 tombs of martyrs to the district’s martyrs’ cemetery and built 9 charity tombs for members who passed away…
Over the past 8 years, the local Veterans’ Society actively got involved in rural road making and urban rejuvenation with a total expense of more than VND450mln; realized environmental hygiene, grew green trees…The society also mobilized its officials and members to subscribe money to the Fund for “Paying debt of gratitude”, the Fund for the Day for the Poor; donated financial support for building a temple of former Lieutenant General Dong Van Cong in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre; donated over VND104mln to the Association for the Elderly…
Upon its achievements done, the local Veterans’ Society will further map out many measures to more effectively realize the campaign “Members helping each other in economic development”, the programs on hunger eradication, poverty reduction and “paying debt of gratitude”…
