Metal piece collection in the night – a depiction of daily life beauty

The falling night is when member youths of An Phu SOS get out to the roads helping functional forces to regulate the traffic, protect the scenes of accidents, or assist emergencies. Scattering sharp metal pieces on traffic roads has recently re-emerged, prompting them to be on self-inventing vehicles getting those pieces in a simple action but helpful to people around.

The volunteering participation

An Phu SOS was established in 2020 with initial 8 members. Talking to us, Tran Minh Tuan, born in 1991 from An Giang province and leader of the group, informed of complex traffic situations around An Phu turnabout and the approximated routes which prompted them to give a helping hand to traffic police regulate the traffic flow to reduce congestion. The helping hand was the hint for the establishment of An Phu SOS under volunteerism without any benefits. They thought of benevolent actions contributing to the peaceful minds and safety of people getting out on the roads.

Nguyen Vu Hoai Thuong, born in 1987 in Long An and a member of the group, noted the different working and daily life hours of the members who mangage to fully attend all the sessions of guarding and shift exchanges. Members who are factory workers in the daytime still enthusiastically join the night guard. Members who make use of transportation services still take their time every evening to be at traffic joints helping the traffic police to regulate the traffic or to protect the scenes of accidents.

On their guard or their working hours as honda-taxis, the participants enthusiastically help the accident victims by calling emergencies or the police or retain the scenes and protect the assets at the scenes. They are also helpful to those people facing tire punctures on the roads due to the scattering sharp metal pieces by vehicle repair and tire puncture fixing for free.

On the roads with vehicles capable of collecting metal pieces

As August is drawing to an end, people who deliberately scatter sharp metal pieces on the road to manipulate tire puncture fixing are again back to the dirty work in Binh Duong province, prompting An Phu SOS to be on the roads again irrespective of the harsh weather. They are even missing their dinners to be on the roads with the vehicles, created on their own, capable of collecting sharp metal pieces by magnet.

Explaining the working functions of the vehicles, Tran Minh Tuan informed that the vehicles were donated by Phung Huu Hiep, a volunteer. Tuan and other members, then, installed more magnet to the firm vehicles perfect for collecting the sharp metal pieces.

They work through the nights with the smiles on the faces. “I take the meaningful job to make people around safe on the roads, without facing risks of accidents due to a punctured tire. We can manage to work like this once or twice a week. Last time, we collected up to 100 kilograms of the sharp metal pieces,” Tuan said as showing us a full bag of sharp metal pieces he had collected.
