Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh came from behind to beat Yi Lu in the third round of the Yonex Australian Open Grand Prix Gold in Melbourne on April 7.
Defending champion Minh worked hard for over an hour to overthrow the unknown rival from China 16-21, 21-16, 21-10.
He will meet No. 6 Sho Sasaki from Japan in the quarter final. Earlier, Sasaki defeated No10 Muhammad Hafiz Hashim from Malaysia 21-17, 21-11.
The Australian Open attracted 376 players competing for a cash prize of US$120,000.
