Ministry of National Defense is organizing the 90th Anniversary of the Vietnam Militia and Self-Defense Force Tradition Day

Thursday, 27/03/2025

On the afternoon of March 26, Ministry of National Defense conducted a ceremony to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Vietnam Militia and Self-Defense Force (March 28, 1935 - March 28, 2025) and to receive the Ho Chi Minh Medal awarded to the Militia and Self-Defense Force. The event took place in Hanoi and was linked online to 88 locations nationwide.

In Binh Duong, Mr. Bui Minh Thanh, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, presided over the conference. Also in attendance was Colonel Nguyen Hoang Minh, a member of the provincial Party Standing Committee and Commander of the provincial Military Command.

Originally established as a mass armed organization under the leadership and direction of our Party, the militia and self-defense force has evolved into an integral component of the Vietnamese people's armed forces, significantly contributing to the national liberation and reunification efforts in the past, as well as to the ongoing national construction and defense initiatives today.

During the era of national renovation, the militia and self-defense forces were established under the guiding principle of being "strong and widespread." Numerous models of militia and self-defense units were developed, achieving significant breakthroughs. These forces consistently took the initiative in preventing, combating, and addressing the aftermath of natural disasters and epidemics, as well as in search and rescue operations to save lives. They coordinated with other entities to uphold political security, social order, and safety, while also contributing to the development of new rural areas and civilized urban environments. This effort played a crucial role in fortifying a national defense posture for all citizens, embodying "a posture of the people's hearts" linked to a robust framework of public security. This commitment is deserving of President Ho Chi Minh's commendation, as he described the militia and self-defense forces as "an invincible force, an iron wall of the Fatherland."

On the occasion of its 90th anniversary, the militia and self-defense force was honored to receive the Ho Chi Minh Medal, a prestigious award conferred by the Party and State.
