Mobilizing resources to take care of people on Tet

Taking care of policy families, poor households, especially on Tet and great holidays is always implemented by all-level Party committees, authorities, Fatherland Front Committees and mass organizations in Thuan An city. To understand more about taking care of the targeted people during the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival 2023, Binh Duong Newspaper has just had an interview with Nguyen Thi Hien, Vice-Chairwoman of Thuan An city’s People's Committee around this content.

 - How is the city’s work of taking care of policy families and poor households during the Tet holiday this year implemented?

- Ensuring social welfare is an issue that is always paid special attention by all-level Party committees, authorities, Fatherland Front and mass organizations in Thuan An city. In addition to using the State budget to support the targeted people as prescribed, every year, the city also mobilizes more resources in the society to well perform the work of taking care of the targeted people, especially on Tet and great holidays.

Currently, the city has 4,260 social protection beneficiaries, 1,109 poor and near-poor households and many targeted people being children with disabilities, the lonely elderly in need of care and help... In order to well perform the work of taking care of social policy beneficiaries, poor and near-poor households, bring them they a warm Tet. Annually, the city’ Party Committee and People's Committee have directed relevant departments to review all the targeted subjects who are policy beneficiary families, poor households, social protection beneficiaries, poor children and other disadvantaged groups to have a plan to support Tet gifts for each specific subject. The locality always understands that the support must be right, sufficient and timely before Tet in order to help people have more conditions to celebrate Tet with their families joyfully and warmly.

During the Tet holiday this year, Thuan An city’s People's Committee also organized many delegations to visit and offer gifts to typical policy beneficiaries, people and children with difficult circumstances. It is expected that from now until before Tet, the city will visit and offer gifts to 90 policy beneficiary families, 30 poor households, 300 children with extremely difficult circumstances and orphans who are being cared and nurtured at the local social support facilities.

- In the current difficult situation, some enterprises have no orders, so they have to suspend operations, badly affecting the lives of many workers. During the Tet holiday this year, how are these workers cared by Thuan An city?

- With the current economic situation, many enterprises have faced difficulties to reduce their production scale, cut working hours and give employees early leave, especially in the textile and garment, footwear, and furniture manufacturing industries. This has affected workers’ incomes and lives.

Facing with this situation, Thuan An city’s People's Committee has directed the Division of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs to preside over and coordinate with the city’s Labor Union and related units to regularly monitor and grasp the situation of enterprises’ production and business activities, especially the lives of workers for timely support. It is expected that this year, Thuan An city’s People's Committee will organize delegations to visit and donate gifts worth VND1million each to 2,500 workers who cannot return to their hometowns for Tet. In addition, the city’s Labor Union will extract from the Trade Union fund to support 6,500 gifts worth VND 500,000 each for workers.

- These meaningful support activities will contribute to helping disadvantaged people get more conditions to welcome a complete and warm Tet. Through this, what do leaders of Thuan An city want to share with people?

- Tet holiday is a reunion of families, so all people want their families to have a complete and warm Tet. This wish is seemingly simple, but for the poor, it is not easy, especially in the difficult economic situation. Taking care of Tet for disadvantaged people is one of the activities always being implemented by Thuan An city for many years. Stemming from the national tradition, I call on all-level authorities, sectors and localities in the city to continue promoting the spirit of solidarity, "mutual solidarity, mutual love", "good leaves protect the torn ones", mobilizing more resources to join hands with the Party and State to take care of disadvantaged people on Tet. The State's attention and support along with shared gifts from the whole society will bring the warmth of spring closer to those in need, contributing to spreading love in the community.

With the support of the whole society, it is hoped that this spring, people in Thuan An city will enjoy a joyful, safe and economical Tet. Every family will welcome a joyful, peaceful and happy Tet.
