To meet the need for enjoying literature and arts of all classes of people in the province, the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts held a contest of literary and artistic creation with the theme "Land and people of Binh Duong province". After six times, more and more authors with many high-quality artworks have been attracted to this contest.
Authors win prizes at the sixth Literature and Art Creation Competition with the theme "Land and People of Binh Duong" in 2022.
Be stable and creative
Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, in the past two years (2020 and 2021), the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts did not hold closing ceremony for the contest. Results were announced and prizes were delivered to winning authors. The creative spirit of writers and artists is still very high, produce more valuable artworks, contributing to orienting and encouraging people from all walks of life to unite and protect, build up the homeland safer and more prosperous.
In 2020, the Organizing Committee selected and awarded 32 works. In 2021, the contest had 47 authors with 143 works in 3 categories: Prose, poetry and music. At the end, the organizers selected and awarded 25 works. And in 2022, 66 authors participated in the contest with 183 works. The Organizing Committee decided to award 44 prizes to authors of following categories: Prose, poetry, music and theatre.
Most authors are members of the Provincial Association of Culture and Arts and amateur authors that are living and working in Binh Duong, participating in prose, poetry, music, and theater categories. Most pieces of arts were about the land and people of Binh Duong. With experience, self-learning, and the association with the real life of each writer, the pieces are close to the breath of modern life; show the humanity of people in solving problems of today's life.
For the authors, the contest is a playground for themselves to contribute more new works to serve the local political tasks, and at the same time to meet the need for literature and arts enjoyment of the folks. The contest is also to discover more new talents of literature and arts in Binh Duong, supplement the existing literary and creative human resource in the province.
Full love of the earth, love of people
This year's contest had an increased number of works and improved quality, which has proved the attraction of this meaningful playground.
According to artisan Ngo Phuoc Chanh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Association of Culture and Arts, works sent to the contest reflect the upward development of Binh Duong through stages. Today we have large trees and sweet fruits thanks to the efforts and sacrifices of generations of people born and lived in Binh Duong. Many works made strong impressions by the rustic storytelling, characters from real life, have strong personality. Meanwhile, short story is a difficult genre, requires broad experience and writing skills, but the contest’s pieces still partly meet the theme of the contest.
In poetry category, there were 89 poems submitted by 20 authors. Although the number is not high compared to other category, it also formed a poetry community of Binh Duong. According to poet Tran Thi Thang, former head of the Secretariat of Van Nghe Newspaper, former deputy head of Vietnam Writers Association, a member of the contest’s Appraisal Council, Binh Duong as well as Ho Chi Minh City have gone through a severe Covid-19 outbreak, which caused unforgettable losses. Some poems like "The Call of Heart", "Farewell"… share those sufferings. It also shows the humanity of Binh Duong people. The care and sharing of food and necessities during the tribulation makes up the great dignity of this land. Therefore, many people consider Binh Duong as their second homeland, whether they were born in Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Quang Ngai, Binh Thuan or come from western provinces, such as Soc Trang, Ca Mau, Long An...
“Although most of the works of the contest lack depth and adequate investment for a competition, but they are expressed in many dimensions of perception with different styles. In the integration period, there have been changes in the movement of society and the market economy, so it is necessary to write pieces of arts about life with bumps and changes", artisan Ngo Phuoc Chan added.
