National Muay Clubs Cup kicks off

The 2012 National Muay (Thai boxing) Clubs Cup opened at Phu Loi ward’s Cultural-Sports Center in TDM town in the southern province of Binh Duong on the evening of May 22 (photo).

This is the first time Binh Duong hosts the tournament. This year’s tournament has attracted nearly 100 martial artists from 16 teams in 11 provinces and cities across the country, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, the Police team, Thanh Hoa, An Giang, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Khanh Hoa, Da Nang and host team Binh Duong.

 At the tournament, martial artists will compete in 16 combat events for women’s weight categories from 45kg to 60kg and men’s weight categories from 48kg to 70kg.

Two teams of Binh Duong, comprising of Binh Duong 1 and Binh Duong 2, with 14 martial artists has set the target of achieving at least 2 gold medals at the tournament. The greatest hope is put on incumbent champion Huynh Van Dung in the men’s 63 kg category.

It is expected that the finals of the tournament will take place on May 26 and 27. This tournament is also a chance for Binh Duong to promote the development of Muay and other martial arts.
