National vitality in Spring

Vietnamese people welcome the New Year with Spring coming to every corner of the country. They are happy and proud that Vietnam has weathered the storm and still maintained a high economic growth rate of 6.7 percent.

In addition to the impact of the global economic crisis, a series of natural disasters and epidemics struck the country and affected millions of people. However, Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the Party, overcame all difficulties to repair the damages and continued to develop their country. Vietnam has experienced significant economic, social, and cultural changes and consolidated its defence and security.

Regarding the international integration, Vietnam fulfilled its mission as ASEAN chair. Under the theme “Toward an ASEAN Community – from vision to action”, Vietnam successfully organized the 16th and 17th ASEAN Summits and other related conferences in Hanoi, laying a firm foundation for the bloc’s goal to establish an ASEAN Community by 2015.

Vietnam also made great achievements in tightening its ties with other countries all over the world in various fields such as economics, politics, and diplomacy. Its international position and prestige were also reinforced and raised.

In the early days of the New Year, Vietnam successfully organised the 11th National Party Congress, which was regarded as a very important political event in its revolutionary cause.

Themed “Continuing the Party’s leadership and increasing the fighting capacity, upholding national strength, comprehensively spurring the renovation, and laying the foundations for Vietnam to become a modern industrial country by 2020”, the Congress re-affirmed the Marxism-Leninism and the Ho Chi Minh Thought as theoretical foundations for the development of the Party. Vietnam is always persistent in developing the country toward socialism and considers economic development and Party building to be key tasks.

In addition, the country also attaches great importance to developing socialist-oriented market economy in a fast and sustainable way by combining economic growth with social equality and progress.

Vietnam will pursue its foreign policy of independence and self-reliance for peace, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralization of external relations, and active engagement in international integration to raise the country’s international position and for the interest of a socialist Vietnam.

Vietnam is a friend and reliable partner of all countries in the international community with great contributions to peace, democracy, and progress worldwide.

As 2010 has passed, we are all confident that Vietnam will achieve the goal of becoming a strong country with prosperous people living in a democratic, equitable, and civilized society.
