New-style cooperative model opens new ways

Update: 18-05-2013 | 00:00:00

According to the Party and State’s instruction on building new-style cooperatives, members have full authority for their assets and production activities. Accordingly, the cooperative is established to support input and output sources of products and place jobs for local laborers. With this purpose, the new-style cooperative model has showed its efficiency in Binh Duong.

Mainstay for members of cooperatives

Based on new criteria of cooperative collective economy, members will enjoy consultancies and supports on input materials and output products. Specifically, the cooperative’s managerial board will seek input and output supply source of products. From practice of cooperative model in Binh Duong province, this model has brought encouraging advantages for members.

“Earlier, we had to manage to seek out consumption market but failed and were forced to re-sell our products for traders with cheap prices”, Nguyen Van Hung, member of Thanh Tan cooperative in Dau Tieng district said. In the past, rubber growers had to seek out output for their products and to find out nurslings and pesticides for rubber trees. However, after joining in the cooperative model, Hung enjoys assistance on nursling, material, fertilizer, medicines for plants and animals as well as consumption market.

The assistance has helped farmers feel secure in their production and business. Since joining in a cooperative, Ben Cat district-based Huynh Van Cong’s farming work has become comfortably. Therefore, he in 2012 bought more 5 ha of rubber tree in Long Hoa commune of Dau Tieng district.

Making wealth together

Aside from helping members seek out material and consumption market, some cooperatives bravely expand production and business scope. Accordingly, apart from basing on traditional advantages, some cooperatives involve in new fields.

In 1997, farmers in Phuoc Hoa commune of Phu Giao district managed to set up Phuoc Hoa people’s credit fund. As of 2010, the credit fund’s strong development is showed by figures of 4,424 members, VND192.702bil in capital. Compared with 12 members and VND50mil in the initial days of establishment, these figures are concrete proof.

Meanwhile, some agricultural cooperatives in Dau Tieng and Tan Uyen districts also expand their operation.

In 2012, the provincial Cooperative Alliance launched new economic models to its affiliates. The alliance set out orientations for the sake of development and expansion of membership cooperatives. Tran Van Luc, chairman of the provincial Cooperative Alliance, said “In the current difficult time, cooperation will help minimize risks on consumption market and input material”.

According to Luc, aside from concerted efforts cooperative members, local authorities’ assistance is also an important deed.

Binh Duong always considers development of collective economic model is one of crucial factors in building new rural areas. Multi-field development of cooperatives has brought encouraging results. In 2012, more than 90% of local cooperatives reached high turnovers, compared with the previous years.
