Update: 09-11-2011 | 00:00:00

Supreme Electoral Council President Roberto Rivas announced that Ortega won the elections after obtaining 62.65 percent of the vote, with votes counted in 85.8 percent of polling stations in the Central American nation.

The candidate of the Independent Liberal Alliance (PLI), Fabio Gadea, finished second with 30.96 percent of the vote, followed by Liberal Constitutionalist Party (PLC)'s candidate Arnoldo Aleman, who got 6.02 percent.

The candidate of the Nicaraguan Liberal Alliance (ALN), Enrique Quinonez, got 0.26 percent, while the Alliance for the Republic (APRE) candidate Miguel Angel Garcia obtained only 0.11 percent.

Rivas said 11,125 polling stations, or 85.8 percent of the total 12,960, had been counted, giving Ortega an "indisputable victory."

He also said opposition parties complained about irregularities in only 18 of the 11,125 polling stations, which was a very low percentage.
