No rival for Vietnamese Queen of Speed at Grand Prix

Update: 19-05-2012 | 00:00:00

Winning gold at Grand Prix, Vietnam doesn’t have Olympic card

In the last stage, which took place in Thailand on May 14, Vietnam’s Queen of Speed Truong Thanh Hang won a gold medal while high-jumper Duong Thi Viet Anh received a silver medal and runner Vu Thi Huong a bronze medal.

Hang proved to be the top runner of the woman’s 800m category. She won three gold medals in three stages of the tournament. However, she could not break the Olympic B standard to get a ticket to the world largest sports event this year. Hang scored 2.02.16, 2.01.79 and 2.02.35 minutes in the three stages, respectively while the B standard is 2.01.30 minutes.

It is similar for runner Huong, who scored 11.79, 11.70 and 12.04 seconds for women’s 100m running while the B standard is 11.38 seconds.

High-jumper Viet Anh won a silver medal in the third stage but she crossed only. 1.83m, which is far below the B standard – 1.92m.

The three greatest hopes of Vietnam’s athletics won medals but all of them failed to win a card to the Olympics 2012.

These athletes will compete at the ASIAN All-Star Athletics Meet in Kazakhstan from May 30 to June 1. This is a chance for Vietnamese athletes to seek Olympic tickets. If they are not successful at this event, they still have hope at the last tournaments in Europe this June
