Over 3,700 deputies elected to provincial-level People's Council

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue chaired a nationwide teleconference in Hanoi on July 15 reviewing the elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 tenure.

Attending the event in Binh Duong province were Pham Van Chanh, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Chairman of provincial People's Council; Nguyen Van Loc, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of provincial Party Committee’s Mass Mobilization, Chairman of provincial Fatherland Front Committee; Ho Quang Diep, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Chairman of provincial Party Committee’s Inspection Commission.

According to a report by the National Election Council, this election had the largest turnout ever, with 69,523,277 voters. The voter turnout reached up to 99.6 percent. despite the Covid-19 pandemic. The election was carefully prepared, proactive, professional and creative with a high sense of responsibility.

The quality of candidates to the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels was guaranteed at balance requirements; the number of female candidates, young candidates, ethnic minority candidates, and non-Party candidates all met or exceeded the set targets. Propaganda work was carried out extensively, with focus and many creative and effective forms, creating consensus for people’s active response. The situation of security and order during the election was maintained in association with safety for  Covid-19 prevention and control.

Of the 499 elected deputies, 194 were nominated by centrally-run agencies, and 301 were introduced by agencies in all 63 provinces and cities. Four of seven self-nominated people were elected to the new legislature. There were 3,721 elected deputies to  provincial-level People's Council, 22,550 to district-level People's Council, and 239,788  to communal-level People's Council.

In his opening speech, Hue, who is also Chairman of the National Election Council (NEC), described the election as the country’s significant political event that took place in a democratic and fair manner in line with the law, ensuring safety and thriftiness. It was really a great festival of the nation, he said.

He emphasized that  the election was prepared thoroughly, professionally and flexibly from the central to local level on the basis of upholding people’s right to mastery, ensuring favorable conditions for every citizen to fully exercise right to nomination and election in line with the law.
