Overcoming difficulties, agricultural production gets thriving

In 2022, the sector of agriculture and rural development continued being affected by the post-Covid-19 pandemic and the high price of input materials for production. The export activities of a number of processed agricultural products also faced many difficulties. However, the sector still achieved and exceeded the set targets with production value increasing by 3.12% compared to 2021.

Production stabilization

With the sector’s efforts to overcome difficulties, the attention of leadership and drastic direction of the Government, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, provincial Party Committee, People's Committee, combined with being proactive in management, support of the people, the province’s agricultural production has achieved positive results.

Accordingly, the sector’s production value in 2022 increased by 3.12% compared to 2021, with the coverage rate of forestry and perennial trees reaching 57.5%. The agricultural structure has so far become substantive and effective, with production scale raised, strongly shifting to commodity production on the basis of promoting advantages of each region. Currently, the province’s area planted with annual crops is 20,031 hectares while the local area for perennial trees is 142,772 hectares, an increase of 0.8%. The area of ​​hi-tech application in cultivation is about 6,934.6 hectares, with valuable crops such as: vegetables, mushrooms, fruit trees, orchids, ornamental plants. Urban agricultural area is about 940.3 hectares, up 24% with main crops, such as: hydroponic vegetables, sprouts, mushrooms, orchids, ornamental plants. Of the total figure, 580 hectares are for organic farming on crops and there are 172 hectares certified organic agriculture.

The province’s new-style rural construction program has continued developing. The province’s agricultural and rural infrastructure system has been synchronously invested, improving the quality of service for production and people's life. The province has continued maintaining 100% of communes meeting rural rural standards, improving the quality of the criteria. By the end of 2022, 29 out 41 communes in the province reached the advanced new-style rural commune standards; there were 50% of districts and towns meeting the standards of new-style rural areas, completing the task of new-style rural construction. The average income per capita in the new rural communes reached VND72million per person per year.

The field of animal husbandry with high-tech application has continued developing with 149 farms investing in breeding chickens with a total herd of over 8.3 million heads, accounting for 68% of the total herd. So far, there have been 253 pig farms with a total herd of nearly 679,000 heads, accounting for 71% of the total herd; 44 duck farms with a total herd of 517,000 heads; a dairy cow farm with a total herd of 1,050 heads.

Agricultural restructuring accelerated

According to leader of provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2022, the local agriculture and rural development sector will continue effectively implementing a plan on comprehensive and synchronous restructuring with focus, operating under the market mechanism, applying the application of new science and technology as the main driving force for creating added values and transforming growth models. The organization of linking production and business chains in agriculture continues being renewed. The quality of agricultural products has been improved and the competitiveness of commodity agricultural products has improved. On the other hand, the sector well realized disease prevention and control on crops, livestock with positive changes in the direction of concentration...

On the basis of the results achieved over the past time, the sector of agriculture and rural development has set out key goals, tasks and solutions in 2023. Accordingly, the sector will strive to increase the production value of agriculture, forestry and fishery by 2,5% - 3% compared to 2022; continue maintaining and improving the quality of new-style rural communes under the province's advanced criteria; strive to complete 100% of communes recognized as advanced new-style rural ones and recognize 2 communes as model new-style rural ones; further accelerate restructuring, improve productivity, quality of agricultural products and production and business efficiency. Along with that, the sector will innovate and develop forms of production and business organization in agriculture; forms of cooperation and linkage in the production and consumption of agricultural products along the value chain; develop agricultural and rural infrastructure and effectively manage basic construction capital, protect and effectively use natural resources; improve the quality and efficiency of irrigation and natural disaster prevention...

To achieve the above goal, Pham Van Bong, Director of provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the sector will continue promoting restructuring, improving productivity, quality of agricultural products and production and business efficiency. Accordingly, the sector will further transform the structure of crops and products in line with market advantages and needs, adapting to climate change. Besides, the sector will continue converting inefficient crops to other more efficient crops such as fruit trees, vegetables, flowers... in the direction of high technology. The sector will continue closely following weather developments, market information, opportunely adjusting production plans flexibly, minimizing damage caused by natural disasters, etc. In addition, the sector will promote the widespread application of electricity commerce in businesses and community in the province; support the application of e-commerce transactions in order to expand the consumption market for a number of potential and advantageous industrial, home industrial and agricultural products of the province.

The sector should further promote the movement of advanced new-style rural construction, improve and develop forms of production and business organization in agriculture; uphold linkages in production and consumption of agricultural products under the value chain in a sustainable way and effectively implement digital transformation.
