Overseas Vietnamese in Germany commemorate martyrs

The Veterans Association of Vietnam (VAVN) in Berlin-Brandenburg, Germany on July 28 organized a ceremony to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the Martyrs and Wounded Soldiers’ Day and pray for the peace for the martyrs’ souls. The event was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Nguyen Thi Hoang Anh, Deputy Military Attaché Truong Hong Thai and representatives of many Vietnamese associations and organizations in Germany, Vietnamese veterans, relatives of martyrs and wounded soldiers, overseas Vietnamese in Berlin and neighbouring areas and Vietnamese monks and Buddhists.In the opening speech, Mai Ngoc Yen, Chairman of VAVN in Berlin-Brandenburg, recalled the history of the Martyrs and Wounded Soldiers’ Day, expressed gratitude and remembered the great merits of heroes, martyrs and wounded soldiers who sacrificed their blood for the cause of national defence, national unity and also shared the pain of loss with the martyrs' families.Ambassador Nguyen Thi Hoang Anh said that this was a very significant activity, demonstrating the tradition of "drinking water, remember its source" and a tribute to those who died for the independence and freedom of the people, for the territorial integrity of the country.The Ambassador considered this a humanitarian activity and praised the VAVN in Berlin-Brandenburg for being always at the forefront of the movements of the community. She also expressed her desire that the VAVN in Berlin-Brandenburg, as well as VAVN chapters in other localities, would always promote unity and consensus in community activities.After offering incense and flowers, superior Buddhist monk Thich Tinh Quang, Thich Quang Nghiem and Thich Tu Nhon hosted a requiem ceremony for martyrs whose relatives are in Germany. The sacred ceremony was conducted with great emotion.At the ceremony, the participants also enjoyed a singing program with performances by many famous singers in the community, including those who served in the army.The event left a deep impression on the participants and highlighted the long-standing moral tradition of the country of Vietnam.CPV
