Party leader praises An Giang’s agricultural achievements

Update: 28-08-2011 | 00:00:00

An Giang has great potential for continued agricultural development, especially in rice and aquaculture. The provincial Party committee has issued a number of policies and implemented a series of measures to promote modern agricultural developments and technologies, and has created new rural areas and improved living conditions for farmers. Over the past three years, the province has also carried out effective projects to improve rural infrastructure.

In 2011, An Giang continues to gain success in agricultural production with food output estimated at 3.83 million tonnes. Aquaculture, especially tra fish farming, has developed strongly and become a key economic sector. The average per capita income is now more than VND21 million per year.

While working with key provincial leaders, Mr Trong pointed out both the province's achievements and limits and discussed measures to successfully reach set targets.

He praised An Giang's achievements in implementing the 10th Party Central Committee’s resolution on agriculture, farmers and rural areas. The province also carried out social welfare policies effectively, assisted the poor and policy beneficiaries, created new rural areas, and significantly improved its infrastructure including roads, schools, clinics, safe water supply systems and irrigation projects.

Mr Trong asked the province to promote its potential and strengths to meet the targets set for ensuring national food security and exports.

Secretary Trong and his entourage also visited Vinh Phu village in Thoai Son district – the locality that achieved the best results in improving agricultural production and infrastructure – and presented gifts to a number of outstanding farmers.
