Update: 23-11-2022 | 11:13:14

Compared with many other provinces and cities, although the number of cultural heritages in Binh Duong is not much, with the recognized cultural heritages, the province also has important contributions to the national cultural heritage treasure. The task of preserving and upholding cultural heritage values has always received attention from the province and local cultural sector.

Preserving cultural heritages

Currently, cultural heritages have really affirmed their position and role in social life. With a long historical and cultural tradition, Binh Duong has contributed many unique and valuable cultural heritages to the national cultural treasure. Over the past years, the task of protecting and upholding cultural heritages received more attention of the province and the local cultural sector, bringing about results.

Le Van Phuoc, Director of provincial Museum said that the conservation and promotion of the value of cultural heritages with two types of tangible and intangible cultural heritages in the province has always been of great interest to the local cultural sector. The sector has assigned provincial Museum to directly advise and implement this work. As of now, Binh Duong has had 4 intangible cultural heritages, including: Tuong Binh Hiep lacquer craft, Binh Duong pottery craft, Tan Khanh Ba Tra martial arts and Ky Yen festival in Tan An communal house; along with 3 national treasures: Doc Chua animal statue, Phu Chanh wooden jar with bronze drum lid, Phu Chanh wooden weaving tool set. These cultural heritages are invaluable assets of the nation while showing the unique cultural and historical values of Binh Duong.

In particular, Binh Duong is also one of 21 provinces and cities in the Southern region with the representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity, which is the art of “Don Ca Tai Tu” (folk southern music). As of now, Binh Duong has also completed a dossier requesting the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to bring the "Ky Yen festival in Di An communal house" in Di An city’s Di An ward into the list of national intangible cultural heritages.

In addition, there are 65 recognized historical - cultural relics, including 13 national-level relics and 52 provincial-level ones. These are "addresses" containing many cultural and historical values, effectively serving traditional education for generations.

Preserving and promoting values

Carrying out the work of preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage, the province and the local sector of culture, sports and tourism have paid great attention to the conservation, restoration and embellishment of cultural and historical relics. In 2006, provincial People's Committee had a decision to approve a project on "Conservation, embellishment and promotion of the value of cultural and historical relics and landscapes until 2010 and orientation to 2020”.

According to Mr. Phuoc, provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has assigned provincial Museum on setting up a report summarizing this project while advising on the development of the project for the next phase to 2025, with a vision to 2030. Provincial Museum has advised the department to ask for a policy to coordinate with the consulting unit to develop this project. In order to ensure the quality of the project, the department has directed the museum to switch to a grassroots-level scientific project on preserving and promoting the value of historical-cultural relics and landscapes in the province in the context of the urbanization and industry 4.0. According to the expected plan, by June 2023, the province will complete the construction of this scientific project.

Preserving and promoting the values of cultural heritages have contributed to educating the cultural traditions and revolutionary history of the land and people of Binh Duong, thereby arousing the people's pride and will to self-reliance, promoting the local socio-economic development, especially tourism development. After the temporary closure, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, province-based historical and cultural relics have begun to welcome visitors again when the pandemic is under control. The local relics in general, especially the national ones, namely Phu Loi Prison, Iron Triangle Tunnel, War Zone D... have welcomed a large number of visitors, mainly being students, Youth union members in the province and the Southeast region.

“With its functions and tasks, provincial Museum will continue well performing the advisory work so that more relics and cultural heritages of the province are ranked and recognized in order to preserve and promote the historical and cultural values of the local relics and cultural heritages. What the museum is interested in is that how will the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage values be done after being recognized? Despite having difficulties, provincial Museum will try to advise to have plans and schemes to promote the value of tangible and intangible cultural heritage with the goal that all relics and cultural heritage of the province must be preserved in a long-term and in accordance with the Law on Heritage," added Mr. Phuoc.

This year, provincial Museum has served more than 45,000 visitors. Among them, more than 34,500 visited national monuments while 10,500 visited thematic exhibitions.
