Rescue teams in northern Philippines are racing to reach those stranded by floods following Typhoon Trami, which displaced nearly 500,000 people, submerged hundreds of villages, and claimed at least 87 lives.

The worst-hit areas are Bicol, with 31 fatalities, and Batangas, south of Manila, with 51 reported deaths and 22 people still missing.

In Batangas, rescuers are digging through up to three meters of mud to locate missing persons in landslide-affected areas. In Bicol, residents stranded on rooftops urgently await assistance as food and water supplies dwindle, especially in Camarines Sur where some areas remain fully submerged.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited affected regions to assess damage before working with local officials.

The Philippines, which faces around 20 major storms annually, is increasingly impacted by stronger and more prolonged typhoons due to climate change, affecting homes, infrastructure, and lives./.
