Phnom Penh calm after rival parties’ meeting

Update: 19-09-2013 | 00:00:00

In an announcement following the second meeting with representatives of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party, CNRP president Sam Rainsy and vice president Kem Sokha still called on supporters to prepare for another demonstration if their demands on issues related to elections are not net.

Sam Rainsy even insisted that the 55 CNRP parliamentarians will not attend the first session of the fifth legislature to be convened on September 23.

In the meeting between the two parties, the CPP and the CNRP reached consensus on ending violence, establishing a mechanism to reform the National Election Committee, and continuing meetings between their high-ranking officials.
