In response to patriotic emulation movements launched by provincial Farmers Association, Phu Giao district’s Farmers Association over the past five years implemented a lot of good and creative models, absorbing involvement of a large number of members. This helped many local farming households rise up out of poverty and even become typical examples in production and business.
Patriotic emulation movements promoted
Trinh Duc Dung, Vice-Chairman of Phu Giao district’s Farmers Association said that the association over the past five years had improvements in both content and form for mobilization work so that patriotic emulation movements could actually go into the life of each member. Particularly, the society launched emulation movements, namely “helping each other in economic development”, “good farmer in production-business”, “building new rural areas”, “paying debt of gratitude”, “Consolidating to build cultural lifestyle in residential quarters”…and received enthusiastic response from members.
Farmers in Phu Giao district joining hands in new rural construction
Through the movement of “good farmer in production-business”, many farmers bravely applied sci-tech advancements into production over the past time, increasing their agricultural products’ productivity, quality and value. This contributed to promoting a shift on economic structure, labor structure and sectors in rural areas of the province. More and more role-models in agricultural production in the district were also discovered. They included Nguyen Van Khai, Phung Van Thuc, Pham Thi Hong Gam with the VAC model, which combines orchard development, fish breeding and animal husbandry in Tam Lap commune; Ngoc Ngoc Diep with the model of breeding chickens under industrial formula and cross-bred wild boars in Phuoc Vinh township; Le Minh Hong with the model of breeding pigs and manufacturing microbial fertilizer from animal husbandry waste in Phuoc Hoa commune…
The above role-models contributed to promoting the local movement of “Good farmers in production and business”. According to statistics by the district’s Farmers Association, there were 31,705 farming households winning the title of “good farmer in production and business” or 74.7% of total households registering for the title. The district’s Farmers Associations at all levels and well-off farming households also offered help of nurslings, breeding animals, techniques to 1,446 needy ones, helping them rise up out of poverty.
Practical efficiency
Also according to Mr.Dung, the district’s Farmers Associations at all levels over the past 5 years teamed up with functional agencies to organize training courses on cultivation and animal husbandry for thousands of farmers, thereby contributing to increasing their agricultural production efficiency; helped farmers get access to preferential loans in order to expand their production models…
Nguyen Thi Tuong was an outstanding farmer in rising up out of poverty in Phuoc Hoa commune’s Bo La hamlet. She said that in 2010, she got VND15mln in loan from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies’ Phu Giao branch to plant various vegetable crops like cucumber, bitter melon, tomato…on a hired land. Thanks to having diligence plus the attention and help of the local administration, her family has so far escaped poverty and secured the annual income of nearly VND100mln.
Thanks to their lives improved, the local people actively responded to emulation movements by the district’ Farmers Association over the past 5 years. Noticeably, they made contributions, including nearly 5,000 working days, to the emulation movement of “Building new rural areas”. They also took part in making 141.5 km of rural roads, dredging 7.1 km of canals and installing 57 water inlet sluices.
In addition, the association actively mobilized members to use clean water, engage in environmental protection activities and take part in the movement of “Taking part in national defense and security”.
According to Mr.Dung, the district’s Farmers Association will further speed up propaganda work, create a consensus among officials and members to better bring into full play their creativeness and strong points, contributing to promoting the local industrialization and modernization process in agriculture and rural areas.
