Worthy urban development

On November 1, the provincial People's Committee submitted a report to the Ministry of Construction on "Appraisal of documents on the task of adjusting the overall master plan of Thu Dau Mot city to 2040". According to the assessment of the provincial People's Committee, the general planning project of Thu Dau Mot City until 2020 approved by the provincial People's Committee is an important orientation for the city to develop a plan to deploy investment, construction, and development in all comprehensive socio-economic fields.

Initially, the project has obtained some basic outcomes to meet the goals of a class 2 city. Then, in December 2017, Thu Dau Mot city was recognized by the Prime Minister as a class 1 urban area in Binh Duong province. However, the review and evaluation of the implementation process showed that the overall development goals set out by the project still had some problems that are only suitable for class 2 cities. Therefore, Thu Dau Mot city planning needs adjusting to be worthy of being a class 1 city.

Sharing more about some adjustments to the city's planning until 2040, Tran Sy Nam – Deputy Chairman of Thu Dau Mot city People's Committee said that the adjustments were in line with the diversification of the market economy in the region, and globally, following the general trend of multipolar development while flexibly adapting to common conditions, contributing to building a comprehensive urban development strategy, planning to exploit resources and technical infrastructure as the driving force for development until 2040.

Accordingly, the direct boundary includes the entire administrative boundary of Thu Dau Mot city and the indirect boundary with localities on a total area of 11,890.58 hectares, accounting for 4.4% of the province's natural area. The scale of change increased by 9.16 hectares compared to the general plan in 2012. According to forecasts, the size of urban construction land by 2040 is about 3,600 - 4,200 hectares for the population of about 600,000 - 700,000, focusing on attracting and developing young population of knowledge and great potentials. Based on the mentioned population size, Thu Dau Mot city will have a project to ensure synchronous social and technical infrastructure for local socio-economic development.

Building smart and sustainable infrastructure

In the project to apply for the adjusted master plan to 2040, Thu Dau Mot city aims to gradually improve the infrastructure connecting the northern sub-region to the city and neighboring districts and towns, connecting between urban and city functional subdivisions in a strategic, key and effective manner, in which, the urban space development of Thu Dau Mot city is suitable with the strategy and economic development model of the city and the northern sub-region, adapting to climate change, inundation, high tide, and intrusion of salinity, ensuring a stable supply of clean water. The city will also focus on developing digital and urban technical infrastructure systems in a smart and sustainable direction.

Thu Dau Mot city will focus on developing an integrated urban area with a public transport system (TOD), other high-speed traffic including public underground traffic and surrounding underground urban space, linking traffic public communication with land use to effectively exploit land and the transport infrastructure system to expand urban development space and functional areas. The nucleus of administrative centers and sub-centers, financial centers, trade-services, medical, cultural, research, education and training centers of the urban sub-region will be formed as the cores of urban areas to strengthen the multi-center urban structure while preserving and enhancing the spatial identity of the city's landscape architecture, develop housing, social infrastructure, meet the needs of using utilities, infrastructure and public services, increase the public green land fund, and improve the environment of existing areas.

People expect these proposals to be approved soon as the basis for the province as well as the city to develop a roadmap and plan for synchronous development of social and technical infrastructure connecting the communities to soon turn Thu Dau Mot city into a modern and civilized city in the future.
