PM approves project to care for disadvantaged children

The Prime Minister has just approved a project to care for children living in especially difficult circumstances during the 2013-2020 period.

These include orphans, abandoned children, children infected with HIV/AIDS, victims of toxic chemicals, children with severe disabilities and those severely affected by natural disasters.

The community-based project aims to mobilise the participation of the whole society, especially families and local communities, to care for the children.

Under the project, 95% of disadvantaged children will receive assistance and access to social services by 2020; suitable care models will be developed for children who are severely disabled, HIV/AIDS infected and victims of toxic chemicals; and the quality of care for especially disadvantaged children at welfare centres will be enhanced.

Policies and laws related to community participation in caring for these children will also be devised under of the project.
