Addressing the event, Chinh recalled late President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal for a nationwide month of planting trees, saying the movment will bring great benefits for the nation.

Over the past six decades, he said many afforestation movements have been launched across the country, with millions of trees planted, helping to green bare land and hills, improve the ecological environment, and actively contribute to climate change adaptation.

The forest coverage of Vietnam has increased significantly over the years, from 28% in 1990 to over 42% in 2022 that can absorb more than 70 million tonnes of CO2.

Tree planting not only protects the landscape, environment and biodiversity, but is also an important economic sector, bringing great benefits for our country now and in the future, said the PM.

He called on all fellow countrymen, including officials, soldiers, and students, as well as foreigners in Vietnam to enthusiastically participate in tree planting at the beginning of the new year for a green, safe and sustainable Vietnam.

Earlier, the PM offered incense to President Ho Chi Minh at K9-Da Chong relic complex where the late president’s body was kept from 1969 - 1975.
