Poor residents continue enjoy help in all aspects

The peak period of the “Day for the Poor” campaign is normally launched by localities in the province at year-end. This year, it takes place from September 1 to December 21. Although achieving high results in hunger eradication and poverty reduction, the “Day for the Poor” campaign herein has been launched widely among people from all walks of life.

Under the efforts of the local authorities and mass organizations, the “Day for the Poor” campaign has been responded enthusiastically by the local people from all walks of life and donors in and out of the country. Since 2005, the local hunger eradication and poverty program has contributed to reducing by 21,000 poor households. It is known that there is only around 2% of poor households under the new poverty line this year. The province also used funds raised by individuals and organizations to build 1,800 unity and compassion houses, donate 465 saving books worth VND40bln to the poor…

 

The program over time also gave help to poor-but-excellent pupils, provided free medical check-ups for the poor, supported them to develop homebased business….with a total expense of tens of billions of dong. Possibly speaking, the “Day for the Poor” campaign has made drastic change in awareness of the local people about the “mutual affection and assistance” spirit.

 

For 2010’s targets, provincial Mobilization Board of the “Day for the Poor” campaign will strive to eradicate temporary houses, build 251 unity houses, carry out support activities for poor households to stabilize their lives; well realize social welfare policies, support 63 children with heart disease to enjoy surgeries; present Tet gifts to the poor and alien workers who cannot return homeland for Tet…

 

Currently, localities and sectors in the province are very enthusiastic in responding to the “Day for the Poor” campaign. According to Le Anh Quy, chairman of Ben Cat district’s Fatherland Front Committee, Ben Cat urgently takes all measures to promote the “Day for the Poor” campaign and the International Day Against Poverty among people from all walks of life.

 

With achievements done, people from all walks of life and businesses in the province need to actively made contributions to “the Funds for the Poor” at all levels and social welfare policies, contributing to successfully realizing the local  socio-economic development targets in 2010 and the Resolutions of the local Party congresses at all levels
