Poverty reduction program contributes to promoting society’s sustainable development

Phu Giao district has always paid more attention to the poverty reduction program. Cao Thanh Xuan, head of the district’s Division of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs cum head of the district’s Steering Board for the National Target Program on Poverty Reduction and Employment Creation said: “For this program between 2006 and 2010 realized effectively, his steering board built a plan with concrete targets…”.

 

 Over the past five years, Phu Giao district disbursed more than VND134bln in loan for 11,484 households to develop homebased business; mobilized organizations and individuals to build 332 compassion houses worth more than VND5.2bln for the poor; exempted and reduced school fees for poor pupils; granted 48,579 health insurance cards for poor households; provided free medical check-ups and medicine for 186,286 poor patients with a total expense of more than VND8.5bln.

The district also organized 639 training course on transfer of sci-tech advancements for 43,727 people; opened 37 vocational training classes for 1,715 rural laborers; introduced jobs to 4,862 laborers. As many as 1,706 local people got regular allowances of more than VND3.7bln. The district also provided unscheduled aid of VND456mln for 96 other needy people…

The district’s good implementation of the poverty reduction policies has contributed to promoting the local economic development. As of late 2010, the district’s economic development targets reached and exceeded the targets set out by the local Party Committee’s resolutions with the average growth of 11.6%. The average income per capital in the district reached VND15mln per year. The rate of the local poor households reduced to 3.49%.

 Between 2011 and 2015, the district will strive to reduce the ratio of poor households to 2.5%-3.5%; mobilize organizations and individuals to build and upgrade 200 houses for poor households; introduce jobs to 1,000 or 2,000 rural laborers; exempt and reduce school fees for 100% of poor pupils; grant health insurance cards for 100% of the poor.

 To effectively implement the district’s poverty reduction task, Mr.Xuan said: “The district’s Steering Board for the National Target Program on Poverty Reduction and Employment Creation will act as an advisor for the district’s People’s Committee to well realize the loan disbursement for poor households; strengthen training courses on transfer of sci-tech advancements in agricultural production for farmers; boost vocational training for rural laborers; help poor households get access to preferential loans…”.
