President Sang holds talks with Chinese Party Chief

President Truong Tan Sang suggested both nations should enhance political trust building and cooperation, and examine ways to resolve satisfactorily pending issues at the November 6 talks with General Secretary and State President of China Xi Jinping in Hanoi.

At the talks, President Sang expressed his confidence that the visit by the Chinese top leader will significantly contribute to propelling relations between the two Parties and the two countries forward.

“The Party, State and people of Vietnam stay ready to join hands with the Chinese counterparts to strengthen comprehensive strategic partnership for mutual benefit and for sake of peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world as a whole.

In the past revolutionary struggles for national liberation of each country, war veterans had always tried to build and nurture solidarity and friendship between the two parties and two countries and two peoples. Consequently, today's generations need to preserve, inherit and promote the fine tradition,” Sang told his guest.

In the context of the current complex international situation, the two countries need to support and help each other and make every effort to reinforce the friendship and cooperation thus making practical contributions to maintaining peace and stability in the region and across the globe.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the Vietnamese State leader said it is essential to respect each other's legitimate interests, control the situation, fully and properly implement reached agreements and common perceptions of senior leaders through negotiations and settlement of conflicts in a satisfactory manner without taking any action to complicate and expand disputes in pursuit of military objectives in the East Sea.

It is imperative to ensure safety of navigation and aviation and normal fishing activities and work together on preserving a stable and peaceful environment to serve development goals of both countries and the whole region.

Both sides can accelerate maritime cooperation projects in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Declaration on the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) to come up with the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

President Sang also urged the two sides to promote cooperation across a variety of fields and effectively carry out signed agreements on economic trade and investment cooperation aiming to enhance bilateral trade links towards balanced and sustainable development on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, and mutual respect for legitimate interests of each other.

Chinese President Xi Jinping in turn affirmed that the Party, State and people of China’s recognition of high importance to the traditional relations of friendship and neighbourliness with Vietnam.

“Maintaining the steady and vigorous development of Vietnam-China relations as well as boosting exchanges and cooperation between the two parties and two peoples are key factors behind the development of each country in line with aspiration of the two peoples, conducive to peace, stability and development of the region and the world,” the Chinese Party leader said.

He proposed consolidating the time-tested friendship and continuing to maintain high-level delegation exchanges, expand substantive areas of cooperation between the two countries, promoting the "one belt, one road " "two corridors, one belt" strategies, satisfactory handling disagreements, maintaining mutual respect so as to augment Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperation in a stable, healthy and sustainable manner.

On sea issues, President Xi Jinping said both sides should redouble efforts to control disagreements through negotiations to maintain peace and stability at sea.
