President Truong Tan Sang has underscored the need to bolster the monitoring, inspection, and management powers of State authorities responsible for the fight against corruption.
He made the remark during a December 10 working session with the Government Inspectorate in Hanoi.
Inspector General Huynh Phong Tranh briefed the President on the past two years of activities under the Inspectorate’s purview.
He reported the significant successes of his officers at both grassroots and central levels, detecting and addressing infringements and undertaking several State management reforms.
Responding to and resolving complaints and denunciations has progressed well and is gradually earning the public’s trust, he added.
In the past two years, the sector has carried out more than 390,000 inspections that resulted in penalties for 2,946 collectives and 5,443 individuals.
To improve corruption prevention’s effectiveness, the sector will work out a roadmap outlining necessary amendments and supplements to the Inspection Law, as well as plans for training the sector’s personnel.
President Sang noted corruption risks becoming more prevalent as Vietnam’s population and economic integration increase.
He asked the Government Inspectorate to continue keeping the Party and State updated, and intensify its operations.
The sector needs to work hand and hand with other offices, ministries, and sectors to proactively identify emerging problems, raise its status and authority, and meet the expectations of the Party, State, and people.
